The Legal Difference - Distracted Driving

Every Thursday, Neblett, Beard & Arsenault attorneys appear on a special segment of Good Day Cenla – The Legal Difference – to talk about frequently asked questions regarding legal matters, community involvement, and more! On this week's episode of The Legal Difference, attorney Wes Gralapp discusses the dangers of distracted driving. Wes stresses that it's not just cell phones that cause distractions - putting on makeup in the car, eating, and loud music can all contribute. Anything that takes your eyes off the road for even a second is a distraction, and it can be dangerous. Accidents can happen, and if you are hit by a distracted driver, you may be eligible for compensation. However, if you are the party that caused an accident due to a distraction, you may be held liable for the damages as a result. Wes' biggest piece of advice is just don't do it. Take an extra 5 minutes to program your hands-free device or radio before hitting the road so that you can focus completely on driving. Put the cell phone down, and give yourself plenty of time to get ready in the morning so you're not tempted to put on makeup or eat breakfast on your morning commute.
