The Legal Difference - Congenital Defects

Every Thursday, Neblett, Beard & Arsenault attorneys appear on a special segment of Good Day Cenla – The Legal Difference – to talk about frequently asked questions regarding legal matters, community involvement, and more! You can tune in to KALB every Tuesday at 11am CT to watch the show live. If you miss it, you can find all the episodes on our website, or check out our Facebook page!
On this week's special episode of The Legal Difference, attorney Barbara Mixon shares the story of her grandson Will, who was born with a congenital defect, and his journey to hearing for the first time. Will failed his two in hospital haring screenings, and several weeks later they performed an auditory brain response test that concluded that he was profoundly deaf. Barbara talks about the emotions her family experienced through the process and Will's cochlear implant surgery at 7 months old. Three weeks after his surgery, Will's implants were activated and he was able to hear for the first time. Barbara speaks about the joy at watching him hear his first sounds, and the advancements he's made under his care team. She also shares some community resources for new parents who may be going through a similar experience, and encourages families not to ignore signs and symptoms of a developmental delay so that you may seek treatment as soon as possible.
