The LPPOA, or Louisiana Probation and Parole Officers Association, hosts a yearly conference that includes a golf tournament, chili cook-off, and presentations by many notable speakers from across the state. District Attorney Joseph Waitz, Jr. of Terrebonne Parish, Sheriff Craig Webre with Lafourche Parish, and Representative Greg Miller of St. Charles Parish are just a few of the notable presenters who spoke during the conference.

Training classes are held after presentations, with topics such as:

  • Behavioral Health Crises and De-escalation Techniques
  • Drug Trends and Emerging Drugs
  • Officer Involved Shootings.

These classes are taught by professionals who have devoted their careers to keeping our communities safe. The LPPOA among other things, works with individuals on probation or parole in the state of Louisiana. They have several programs available to assist people in re-integration into society, including:

  • Suit drive to help prepare people for job interviews
  • Re-entry classes to teach interview and job skills
  • Monthly probation orientation meetings to offer positive reinforcement for good behavior and for making an effort to be a productive member of society

Recently, Louisiana passed the Earn Compliance Credit that rewards good behavior on a month-to-month basis by reducing parole time. Louisiana Probation and Parole District Manager Cole Gralapp is hopeful that the new credit will help encourage those on probation and parole to hold themselves accountable for their actions and work hard to contribute to society in a positive way.

On March 13th, Cole was a guest on On Point Talk with Carlette Christmas, where he discussed the benefits of the new credit, the programs LPPOA offers to parolees, and how local communities can get involved with their rehabilitation and reintegration. Attorney Wes Gralapp was also a guest on the show, and he shared anecdotes about the many years Neblett, Beard and Arsenault has sponsored the LPPOA Annual Conference.
