Recently, Neblett, Beard & Arsenault, representing peanut butter salmonella victims, filed suit against ConAgra. The suit is on behalf of the daughter of a woman who died from salmonella poisoning after eating Peter Pan peanut butter. Peanut butter contaminated with salmonella, a bacteria that causes food poisoning, has been traced to a ConAgra plant in Sylvester, Georgia. ConAgra is the manufacturer of Peter Pan and Great Value peanut butter.
Based on a study conducted by the CDC, the FDA issued a warning not to consume Peter Pan or Great Value peanut butter. Typical symptoms include fever, vomiting, diarrhea, and headache.

FDA Warns Consumers Not to Eat Certain Jars of Peter Pan Peanut Butter and Great Value Peanut Butter, Product May be Contaminated With Salmonella.
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is warning consumers not to eat Peter Pan peanut butter or Great Value peanut butter manufactured by ConAgra. The product code on the lids begin with "2111". The outbreak is ongoing and the first consumers were showing signs of salmonella in August 2006. Symptoms of food poisoning caused by salmonella include fever, diarrhea, vomiting and abdominal cramps.
Update on Salmonella Outbreak and Peter Pan Peanut Butter and Great Value Peanut Butter
Since February the FDA has been advising consumers not to eat Peter Pan and Great Value peanut butter because of risk of Salmonella Tennessee. Salmonella is a bacterium that causes food poisoning and "Tennessee" is a type of Salmonella found recently in Peter Pan and Great Value peanut butters. Hundreds of people in over 39 sates have gotten sick.

Cases of Salmonella Sickness Linked to Peanut Butter Top 600, Federal Report Says
A new federal report shows the number of people sickened by salmonella-tainted peanut butter has now topped 600.A report in March put the number at 425. Now, it's 628, in 47 states. Only Hawaii, New Hampshire and Utah have reported no illnesses.
ConAgra Foods recalled all its peanut butter after government investigators linked the bacteria outbreak to the company's Peter Pan and Great Value peanut butter.
The Centers for Disease Control says the number of new salmonella cases dropped substantially after the peanut butter was recalled.
Wal-Mart has continued selling Great Value peanut butter made by different suppliers, but Peter Pan has yet to return to stores.
ConAgra plans to reintroduce Peter Pan in July.
